Gives valuable insight into the real Diana
By CC
This book gives valuable, historical insight into the actual personality of Diana, Princess of Wales and her extra-marital relationship with James Hewitt. It clearly shows that, although needy, she was far from the hysterical borderline personality that so-called "royal experts" such as Penny Junor have tried to portray her as being. And forget that dreadful Princess in Love book: The real story of Diana and James Hewitt is here, without flowery embellishment. Diana is shown to be witty, flawed, complex, warm, and delightful. Hewitt readily admits both his idiocies and accomplishments in turn. His honesty gains sympathy as he progressively becomes a victim of a hopeless (and treasonous) relationship; his own mistakes; the tabloid press; and finally the British establishment. I received this book as a gift. Before reading it, I expected it to reinforce my previous view of "James Hewitt is a worthless cad." Instead, James Hewitt's formerly inscrutable decisions and actions now make a great deal of sense. I have increased respect and sympathy for him and for the Princess of Wales, both of whom were trapped in an impossible situation with no future but nevertheless, to paraphrase Dylan Thomas, sang in their chains like the sea.

Really quite sad.
By Love2Read
This book left me feeling broken. I feel for both Diana and for James Hewitt. I don't doubt that they were in love and I think they would have had a good life together, but they both should have known better than to get involved in such a hopeless situtaton. Diana knew her marriage was over long before the divorce, she put up with a lot, but she was still a married woman with two children to raise who will have good morals. How must they feel to know both of their parents were untrue to each other.
What Anna Feretti did was unforgivable. No matter how hurt she may have been over the pictures of Hewitt and a lady, she had no right to steal Diana's letter from him and give them to the Mirror. What was she thinking. The greatest ones to suffer from this insensitive act would be the children, the only innocents left in the royal family.
Hewitt fought long and hard to get those letters back and I know they mean a great deal to him and he likes to read them over for comfort, but they need to be buried along with Diana. He will always have her in his heart and that way he can be assured no one else will ever see them.
I wish him a happy life. Diana was a shining star and the skys are so much darker without her light surrounding us. But I know that up there in heaven she has found her peace at last and happiness that will last forever. She was a true gift from God.

Yes, I've given it 5 stars but....
By NISE
...only because compared to his first disastrous attempt when he teamed up with Anna for 'Princess in Love', at least he had the courage to write this himself and give us what he considers to be the true side of his story. The man deserves to be heard considering the slanderous way the press has been treating him so I read the book and I have to say, I did enjoy it. I knew nothing about his military career or Diana sending him packages to the Gulf. I think the book is well written and informative. If James wrote this book for the money then shame on him for being a lowlife BUT, if he wrote this to set the record straight as he claims then I don't see anything wrong with it. Freedom of the press! How about freedom of the public! Let's not forget that Diana DID ask him to burn the letters too so he's not such a wonderful guy considering he blatantly ignored her requests. I'm giving him the benefit of a doubt though.
