With 69 juicy selections, it's impossible to pick out favourites, but the selections from Nikki Magennis, Donna George Storey, Aisling Weaver, Kristina Lloyd, Raziel Moore... oh, hell. It's an amazing collection of stories and shortness of each one means that the writing is tight as a vise.

Like many small children of the era my first exposure ...

Like many small children of the era my first exposure to what now is known as the Atari 2600 was the box artwork. Seeing "Adventure" , "Space War", "Casio", "Space Invaders" on the wall at my local Toys-R-US they just popped. An early memory of mine is of opening my Indy 500 on X-Mas 1980. Playing it for hours with a buddy then staring at the box/box art before going to sleep.

The book is nicely done. I do like how the boxes warts and all are presented, after all that is the stuff of our memories. As modern made [cheaply] in China books go this Deluxe Edition out box and inner book appear to have been designed with maximum nostalgia in mind - something that they very much succeeded in doing.

Thanks to the author and his crew for this treasure. Hoping there is a Vol 2 featuring Intellivision some day. Highly recommended!

Art Of Atari - Get this now!

If you are like me and enjoy looking at Atari box or cartridge art, then this book is for you. The book is beautifully constructed. The deluxe edition includes a slip case that pays homage to the cartridge boxes, leather binding and over 300 pages of amazing artwork and drawings. This is a must-have for any Atari enthusiast.

Wow.

Some of my greatest childhood memories are thanks to Atari. All my friends seemed to have one, my grandma bought one to keep us grandkids entertained, and the hours upon hours of gaming that I enjoyed. And that's just the Atari 2600. Which is why I decided to purchase this Deluxe edition, which I understand is now out of print according to Amazon. This book is a testament to the 2600. Everything is first class all the way here, with each turn of the page an artistic explosion of memories. To sink another $80 for an Atari-related product after all these years seemed almost second nature to a guy like me who had the privilege of growing up in such a great era.

The only downside is that the upper corners of the protective sleeve were a bit dented due to poor packaging, with the book itself having a small dent in one of the corners as well. For the money, I'd prefer to not have dents but I don't think I can get another one.

At either rate, I'm still giving 5 stars because I am thrilled with this book. Definitely for addicts like me.

Getting Social with your Photos

I tend to be a bit of a meathead around my smartphone. There are only a few apps I use on a regular basis -- mostly because I still think a phone should be a **phone**. Any of that other stuff is just needless extras. Pull up yer pants, ye whippersnappers.

I've been even worse with my cellphone camera. I barely ever used it on my other devices -- and the entire problem was that I'd gotten used to using film cameras growing up. Once digital photography drove film cameras into extinction, I mostly quit taking pictures altogether. But I've started taking pictures for my job, so it was time to get back on the horse -- and this book helped out a lot.

This book is going to be most helpful to you if you're fairly well-acquainted with photography to begin with. It's especially useful if you're fairly accustomed to digital photography already, but most of what's discussed will allow even neophytes to catch up to the rest of the class quickly. Even better, it's easy to pick up some simple tricks you never knew about, and several that you never even dreamed were possible with a smartphone camera. I may not be ready to try long exposures, time lapses, photo layering, or anything requiring serious photo-editing skills -- but there are a lot more techniques, most of them quite simple, that I've started experimenting with. And I'm already seeing an improvement in the photos I take.

Possibly the most useful chapter of this book is the one listing photographers worth following on social media. It's not really an opportunity to name-drop -- it gives aspiring photogs some people who it'd be good to keep track of, just to keep yourself inspired and challenged by what the experts are doing.

As is mentioned several times in the book, the best camera is the one you have with you -- and nowadays, almost everyone has a pretty good camera in their pocket, ready to snap a photo anytime.

The photos are winners, the techniques are wonderfully outlined, and the text and layout make the whole book a fast and fun read. Pick it up -- you'll be glad you did.

Grade 4 Up-This recording of A Christmas Carol is a pleasant way to spend a few hours during the holiday season. Although abridged, it retains the spirit and language of Dickens' original manuscript. Anton Lesser gives a superb performance as the narrator and the voices of the characters, especially when portraying the Cratchit family, the Christmas Spirits and the London dialects. All characters are easily understood. Appropriate music begins and ends each cassette. This enjoyable retelling would be especially appropriate for family listening and a special treat for English literature classes.

Possibly the best "Christmas Carol" ever

Many versions of Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol" are actually abridgements (done more or less smoothly) but this version is complete and unabridged. Even if you think you are familiar with the book you may find upon reading this one that you previously had read a shortened version! The completeness of this volume would be reason enough to add it to your library, but the quality of the pages, typeface, and above all the lovely illustrations scattered throughout further commend it. I have bought copies for all 3 of my grown children--because every family deserves to own a complete version of this classic story and this one is the best I have ever seen.

Read the book the way Dickens wrote it..........

I hope all readers take time to read A CHRISTMAS CAROL in the original language Dickens used in the 1840's. Dickens' language remains humorous, descriptive and insightful and not inaccessible to most modern readers especially with the use of a good glossary. This is a great read aloud for families at Christmas time and also a great introduction to Dickens and other Victorian writers. Don't settle for an abridged version. Read this masterpiece the way it was intended

Beautiful Volume

I collect "A Christmas Carol" and this is a particularly lovely volume. The illustrations are wonderful and the overall quality, printing, binding and paper, is terrific. This is definitely in my top three favorites of all the different versions I own.

It's a good collector's item

If you're looking for a how to draw book, this isn't the book for you. However, if you're a Don Bluth fan, and an aspiring animator this is a terrific book. This book is full of inspirational anecdotes, stories, and tips, than practical working knowledge. I'd recommend you get that the Preston Blair Animation book if you're looking to learn all that. However, I will say that Bluth goes deeper in to concepts of "timing" and "beats" and the art of story telling than Blair does (actually, Blair lacks the story telling chapters.)

This book also goes a bit in to story-boarding. Which for fans of Dragon's Lair makes this a really neat book, since it contains storyboards from an entire scene of the unmade DRAGON'S LAIR movie. I really wish it would get made someday. :(

All in all, it's a good book, a bit underwhelming (even as a fan, I can understand why it would sell for $5 and under here on Amazon), but a good purchase none the less.

Great Intro to animation

This is not so much a book on drawing as it is an introduction to the process of traditional animation. Written in a conversational style with plenty of illustrations, it contains amusing anecdotes and tidbits of wisdom from master animator and director Don Bluth. The model sheets and sketches have rarely been seen anywhere else, and the drawings as always are pure genius. I would recommend this book for anyone new to animation or Don Bluth Fans.

Motivation for animators

Im a Don Bluth fan since small age, and this book it feels like if he was really talking to you.
As an animator enthusiast, i really find this book inspiring. Its more like a motivation book than a textbook.
It explains really well the basics of animation and it also includes thins like the musical score and voice recording.
I really recommend it if you want to read something that its not just a animation textbook.
