About the Author
Yann was born in Marseille in 1954. He began his career in advertising and architectural design before sinking into the world of comics with material for the student newspaper Balak Spirou in 1974. After a brief stint at Curiosity Magazine, he partnered with Conrad to create Innommables, published by Dargaud, and then Bob Marone published by Glénat. The prolific author eventually abandoned illustration (except for the occasional sketch or thumbnail) to concentrate purely on writing, and he has penned innumerable works illustrated by some of the greatest French and European artists, including Yslaire (the first episode of Sambre), Yves Barge (Freddy Lombard), Morris (Lucky Luke), René Hausman (Aire Libre) and Wozniak (Star Chasers)

This is why I keep buying comic books

I read way too many comics and really get tired of them sometimes. But occasionally I buy one like Grand Duke that's so good I have to keep looking for more.

Like other reviewers mentioned, the artist specializes in historic planes. He does an amazing job on not just those but on people and landscapes too. The splash pages are perfectly drawn and placed. The icing on the cake is the story and dialogue are awesomely realistic. I was engaged. It even has little hints of mysticism, fantasy, fate, etc. I had to reread a few sections to fully appreciate all the details and imagery. This book exceeds all expectations.

(The only minor flaw is the nudity is a little fan servicey, a little pinup girly vs. the rest of the book's realism. Uhh, again, that's a MINOR complaint for male readership.)

GRAND INDEED

This is one of the most beautiful books that I have ever seen. Let this guy illustrate the next Marvel or DC event and let the mainstream comics fans see artwork every bit as good as Alex Ross best work. A very compelling, human story set amidst the horrors of WW2. "Night Witches" — the 588th Night Bomber Regiment. The all female unit of the former U.S.S.R. against the deadly Luftwaffe. Keep an eye out for the artist Romain Hugault.

For those who were wondering, this volume contains all three volumes (which are also available, but untranslated) of The Grand Duke translated into English.

The Grand Duke follows the experiences of a Luftwaffe and Soviet air aces -- and their convoluted interactions with each other and their respective comrades and superiors, as well as their respective fortunes.

The artwork is outstanding, especially the depiction of the type planes each flew or rode in, and with the full color artwork, this is a volume that one can simply enjoy for the pictures as well as the story it chooses to tell. Especially concerning the air-war on the Eastern Front.

INTRODUCTION

Writing this book has been quest that easily could have gone in number of different directions. For years, I debated about whether or not to even write a book of this nature. To begin with, I struggled over disclosing information and concepts that have always been guarded treasures within the confines of my company. Then there was the aspect of content, as any one chapter could and really should be book in itself. These concerns, among others, nearly caused me to alter my course.

What eventually changed my mind was conversation I had with one of my dealer clients. We were discussing the difference between their struggles prior to our relationship and their success after they became our client. This dealership attributed the majority of their newly found success to their recently discovered perception of the Internet as it relates to the car business. My client went on to say that as their view of the big picture changed during the course of our trainings, so did their ability to think outside of the box.

That is essentially what this book is about. It was written to cover a wide array of subjects that are critical to the success of dealership's online efforts and ties in how these topics relate to the big picture. I also spend time drawing the line between fact and fiction. Within these pages, you will find countless sales concepts and techniques, but more importantly you will discover the secrets that enable some dealerships to make millions of dollars per year while leaving their closest competition clueless as to how.

Those who know me well know that I have an unyielding passion for both the retail automobile dealer and the harnessable power of the Internet. Both are standing examples of true capitalism and free enterprise. Together, they can be leveraged, one against the other in such way that cuts through and captures the true essence of success. It is within this "essence" that all of my passions and aspirations for the e-dealer lie. It is consistent with all that is worthy about being in this industry.

With one or two small exceptions this guy is fairly clueless. If his knowledge and experience had matched the intensity with which he presented himself it would have been a masterpiece on par with Poe, Hemingway, and Fitzgerald.

This book makes the case for a standing UN Emergency Peace Service. With this one development - effectively a UN first responder for complex emergencies - the organization would finally have a rapid, reliable capacity to help fulfill its tougher assigned tasks. To date, the UNEPS initiative has encountered an unreceptive political, fiscal, and security environment. Yet overlapping crises are now inevitable as are profound shifts. This book presents an insightful review of the worrisome security challenges ahead and analysis of two recent high-level UN reports. It addresses the primary roles, core principles, and requirements of a UNEPS, as well as the arguments for and against such a dedicated UN service. Further, it reveals that the primary impediments and lessons learned also help demonstrate what may work and, equally important, what won't. With modest support, the book shows, the next steps are feasible, although it's important to recall that ideas, even good ideas, don't work unless we do.
