A Christian survivor of the vicious civil war between Lebanese Christians and Muslims in the 1970s, Gabriel leans on her own terrifying experiences to condemn Muslims, without apparent regard for their ethnicity, ideology or historical role. Consistently using the words "Muslim" and "Arab" as if they were interchangeable, she concludes that the U.S. is "facing total destruction" at the hands of people who are uncultured and cruel, and prescribes such solutions as "profile, profile and profile," and banning "hate education" in Islamic institutions. Excellent read ! Required reading for all Americans

Brigitte is an excellent author who writes from personal experience. Her native Lebanon was once a prosperous liberal open society until it was destroyed by radical Islam. This book was written in 2006 and it is truly remarkable to see what has transpired in 10 years thanks to ineffectiveness on the part of both the US and European governments and "political correctness ". Not only do we have ISIS but we also have our president & elected officials continuing to deny/ignore the FACTS that Islam is not a peaceful religion & that it has an agenda to destroy everything we hold dear in our liberal society. As a Christian convert with Jewish blood I am very concerned over the events taking place right now in Europe where Christians & Jews are being assaulted in France as they exit their worship services. This is not being reported much due to political correctness. France will surely be the next Lebanon. If you value your life & the lives of your loved ones, do yourself a huge favor & ignore the mainstream media opinions & analysis when the next terror attack takes place. Listen to an expert who has lived through it all; that expert is Brigitte !

Wake up & smell the coffee.

A very good read, even though it is aimed mainly at an American audience. As they say in the USA, perhaps we, too, should "wake up and smell the coffee". I would also recommend the sequel "They Must Be Stopped". It should also be pointed out, however, that both of these books are mainly speaking of the threat posed by RADICAL Islam, not every muslim.

Basic Clinical Parasitology

The 4th edition (1975) is a classic that contains information that is still relevant today. We used this book for many years to teach medical students about medical parasitology. I find myself still referring to it. Many advances have been made since the last publication, so interested readers should refer to a more recent text such as Parasitic Diseases by Despommier, Gwadz, Hotez and Knirsch.

First off, this book is very different from Joe's last book, "Epic Content Marketing," which is one of the very best "soup-to-nuts, how-to" books about content marketing.

"Content Inc." explores the strategies of successful companies who built their audiences before they launched their products. The book includes many examples of companies who have very successfully followed this approach.

The book walks you through the six-part Content Inc. model which shows you how to uncover a content area sweet spot that your business model will be based around, how to differentiate your content, how to pick the initial platform foundation for your content, how to turn your readers into subscribers, how to then diversify your initial platform and finally, and most importantly, how to monetize it.

If you're familiar with the Copyblogger brand, the Content Inc. model is exactly how Copyblogger built their business into a multimillion dollar venture with no investors and no debt. Not surprisingly, Copyblogger founder Brian Clark wrote the foreword to Content Inc.

Content is king is an old mantra, or it just feels as for more years than one cares to remember content has been an over-used and often under-appreciated term. To an old journalist who trained on manual typewriters and had no Internet access, content is, well, just what we used to call copy. Different copy for different purposes, audiences and goals.

This book tries to push its way into a fairly crowded area, aiming to show entrepreneurs how content may be used to build “massive audiences” and create “radically successful” businesses. Littering the book with examples such as Huffington Post and KraftRecipes is one thing, yet it can also be setting up unrealistic expectations. Small can be beautiful and a firm of architects can still utilise great content for a very small audience. Bigger is not always better, despite the inferences and hoopla from this book.

One remains sceptical, probably due to the book’s whole being or its execution. The author is a content marketing expert and the advice is generally quite good, embracing and actionable; yet the book just did not grab this reviewer. It should have. Even an old dog can learn a few new tricks from another wise old dog. It just felt as if you could not warm to this book and thus it was too easy to become disengaged and put it down. That is a shame. Both the author and the publisher knows their business, so what went wrong here? Is it more than good content in average or poor packaging?

When it is far from being the only content marketing resource available, why rush to this book? Why indeed. It is frustrating, as one knows that the author produces interesting and engaging material and this reviewer is a regular reader of his online service/blog. The self-same feeling that the author manages to create there is missing here. It just feels a night and day difference. It is not even a dumbing down/different audience argument either.

If you can get on with the book then it is likely to deliver a lot. The typical reader for this book is going to benefit from a sequential read and forming a connection to the author; being sold on the concept, the need and the execution. If you feel it falls at the first step, maybe you won’t hang in there to see if things change. Definitely a “if you need this type of book, look at it first in a bookstore” thing.

A review of Joe Pulizzi’s new Book “Content Inc” … by one who thinks we all needed this the most!

Having already read Joe Pulizzi’s earlier book “Epic Content Marketing” and being an avid reader of his blog posts and articles, I was waiting for the new book “Content Inc.” to be released. I had already seen the short previews of what the book would contain on the Content Marketing Institute site, from where I got the feeling I knew what the book would be about – more or less.
But I must admit that when the actual book was published, the revelation was in the number of actual real-life examples illustrating each of the six steps of the journey that a content marketer needs to make, and as I read on the whole concept came alive. I especially liked the nuanced advice accompanying each of the six stages of the roadmap that Joe Pulizzi has set out for young brands to follow as they get their bearings in the Content Marketing space.
Having myself been a Digital Marketing Consultant with a 35 year track record handling small and large businesses globally, I have personally seen the six-step process outlined by Joe Pulizzi happen time and again with almost every large and small brand that I have handled.
Invariably, the brands that succeed – and sustain momentum – are those who start with a focused and deliberately limited vision of what they want to achieve and then gradually widen their scope. They also conserve resources best and allow expenses to grow at the pace of market success. Joe’s six-step roadmap has systematized what we have all seen happen but never codified into a followable principle for young brands.
On the contrary, we have also seen that brands that are tempted to do too much at the start and do not have a plan to limit their content marketing to some set channels at first before widening out gradually to a plan. They get into a state of early disarray, overblowing expenses on all the wrong things - and soon the wasted effort and the dent in the cash flow reduces momentum to a virtual standstill.
Joe has spelt out his six step plan with a lot of thought and a lot of study into real businesses that succeed. He has overturned the notion that businesses have to start with a product, find a market and then communicate via content to sell. He instead illustrates “the new model” that content marketing practitioners – and especially inbound content marketing practitioners – must rely on. This new model requires you to “soar with your own strengths” (even if you haven’t a clue what you are going to sell). You create content of quality and authority and house it on your site, purveying what comes naturally to you and for which you have a unique talent above others. You start with a few modes of communication that work for you, and then widen out to include more forms of digital communication, social channels and so on.
I know that this whole business idea is counter-intuitive to how the Western world traditionally plans business (which now is called the business plan!) which many other professionals across the world now follow as the ideal model. But being an Indian who has observed many traditional artisans and fine craftsmen market their wares, I would call this the “very old and very enduring model of business”. I once spoke to a potter on the roadside who was creating delightful objects of his own free will and placing them on the pavement as he created them. “What do you make? What is your main product?” I asked him. “Anything that the customer likes from what I have here!” he said. He too hadn’t a clue about what he would sell. All he knew was to give expression to his unique talents and let the market find its “sweet spot” from among the things he would eventually be able to monetize!
Those of us, consultants, who have been trying to evangelize this model of business with our clients and customers now have Joe’s book to hand out and say “Please read that, because this is your business plan hereafter!” That’s why I have already made my clients get Joe’s new book and for my key clients I have bought and gifted the book myself.
A last word … Joe’s writing is as always so simple, direct and so authentic (and so packed with action points and examples) that you feel like you are reading your own mind’s new clarity as you are reading Joe’s words. That’s the gift of a very great writer, and I am not surprised that someone with these skills is heading one of the biggest Content Marketing initiatives online.
Thanks, Joe, for this really awesome book, and for showing young brands and marketers that the way to prioritize and grow is with focus … instead of floundering meaninglessly in the vast layers and labyrinths of the confusing digital space, with a product in hand and no customers on the horizon.

Arsen is mine!!

It finally happened, Cayson is happy so I’m going to accept that and keep my mouth zipped on how it came about. The main thing is that they both have accepted the past is the past and they’re willing to move forward from that. All the heartache has to be worth it if they do genuinely put the past behind them and focus on what matters; which is their future together. Ward doesn’t help things but in that sense I think Cayson needs to back off a bit, jealousy is going to make things even more awkward than it already is.

Roland; well he finally acknowledges to some extent that his feelings have changed towards Heath. I mean I think the readers already knew that but I’m glad that they have acknowledged it in a way that makes it seems real. For those kind of feelings, it seems to be gradual and sneaks up on people. I’m glad it is being done in a time sensitive way especially when these feelings will be new and different.

Slade; my protective Slade. I’m so glad he decked his bandmate, some bandmate. I just love Slade. I think out of the characters he is one of those who has truly grown as a person. He sees love as something to treasure, he finally sees a future and doesn’t want to run away from it. I’m genuinely rooting for him. He’s epic.

Trinity’s fears come to light in this book but Slade just makes it all better and I won’t tell you how cos you’ll lose the swoon factor, just read it!!

Thomas; I like him. Theo however slightly annoyed but at least Theo is trying to sort it out, he’s making amends and I like to see that. It shows growth in his characters especially after what he did to Alex in previous books. I’m glad to see this changing and Thomas is a good addition to these books.

Arsen!!!! Woohoo! He’s second to Slade for me, I want him to get the ending he truly deserves and for me personally that ending will be with Silke, I see them as a forever couple, they have to be end game, please? I just can’t bear the idea of her being with someone else but looks like that might happen! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it doesn’t! I’m glad that Arsen is going to prove himself, I have faith that he will and that he’ll get Silke back. He’s a firm favourite for me!!

Thoroughly enjoying this series !

It seems they are all settling down and maturing,

I am pleased for Skye and Carson now they see to have put the past behind them. I don't think its going to be forgotten anytime soon, but they are both working at moving forward.

Alex and Theo are working it out, keeping things going in the right direction too.

Beatrice and Conrad, are also going the right way, nice to see they too are putting the past firmly behind them too.

Uh Oh! Slade is heading for disappointment, i hope he listened to Carson, and that he doesn't screw things up. Trinity is so much more involved, even though it looks like Slade is 100% focused, there is something holding him back. Seriously hope that the band does not take him off course.

Good on Silke, Pike sounds like a nice guy, I hope she gives him a chance even though I like Asher, I think she has finally come to terms about how her and Asher would have been. I feel like Ryan and Janice have mixed loyalties, although it does show how big a heart they both have.

Asher is showing how remorseful is is, I'm glad he helps Janice in the house. He did great passing the school exam, I hope he stays on the right path and actually makes something out of himself. He deserves the kindness he is being offered. I am also glad he realises he needs to be in his daughters life, that is going to be a huge hurdle and I hope his emotional state is equipped enough to help him through that.

Just not sure how Silke and Asher are going to deal with each other when they run into each other!

Thomas is still full of pent up aggression and now it seems its directed at Rome, I firmly believe once he and his brother bury the hatchet and start on a friendship, then maybe he might loosen up a bit. There are may facets to Thomas's personality.

Loving the brief connections with the parents popping up here and there.

Roland, AHH, how emotional, I hope he finally works out what is happening and glad that he has Jasmine to talk to. Heath is being a really good friend, even though he wants more, its a tough transitional period for Roland. You can really feel the confusion he is feeling.

Clementine, whats her story? what is she hiding? Ward has been a gentleman, and he needs to bide his time; she is a nervous kitten, although fiercely independent, she is letting something from her past stop her from enjoying where her and ward could go and when she finds out about Skye and Ward's connection other than the work one, things I think might get worse before they get better.

Loving the direction all the storylines are taking.

This book is clearly my favorite even tears streamed down my face omg o felt so much thing my emotion was so deep.

I love Thomas a bit more than Theo now he was bully and now he's like batman when someone take advantage of other people he beat them if he should, I can't wait to know if he will forgive his brother and how he and Rone relationship will be in the future.

I find Arsen part so cute I nearly cried when everyone came to support him and testify for him and Ryan he's a good guy omg just thinking about all the scene between then my eyes water alone.

I rediscover Roland and I'm so proud about that character he drop out school to pursue his dream and even if he freaked out about what happen with Heath and hurt him he decided to try and I cried so much in that part because I swear if he tell his sister and Cayson about it they will never judge him ( I hope Conrad will be as Cayson when he thought Slade was Gay don't break my heart)

I found it cute when Mike told Conrad to marry Beatrice, it's so cute.

I can't wait to see Ward and Clementine as an official couple the girl deserve the guy because he's so gentle British Character melt my heart

About the Author
Rex Hartson is a pioneer researcher, teacher, and practitioner-consultant in HCI and UX. He is the founding faculty member of HCI (in 1979) in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. With Deborah Hix, he was co-author of one of the first books to emphasize the usability engineering process, Developing user interfaces: Ensuring usability through product & process. Hartson has been principle investigator or co-PI at Virginia Tech on a large number of research grants and has published many journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters. He has presented many tutorials, invited lectures, workshops, seminars, and international talks. He was editor or co-editor for Advances in Human-Computer Interaction, Volumes 1-4, Ablex Publishing Co., Norwood, NJ. His HCI practice is grounded in over 30 years of consulting and user experience engineering training for dozens of clients in business, industry, government, and the military.

Pardha S. Pyla is a Senior User Experience Specialist and Interaction Design Team Lead at Bloomberg LP. Before that he was a researcher and a UX consultant. As an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech he worked on user experience methodologies and taught graduate and undergraduate courses in HCI and Software Engineering. He is a pioneer researcher in the area of bridging the gaps between software engineering and UX engineering lifecycle processes.

Human-computer interaction in practice, not theory

Few books in the field of human-computer interaction offer such a comprehensive, logical overview of contemporary methods and processes like this one. The authors do an excellent job of distilling HCI techniques into a form that is digestible for newcomers to the field; showing where, when, why, and how requirements gathering, design, prototyping and evaluation should be done.

Whether you're aware of it or not, you are following some sort of process when you design and build a product. This book outlines many of those processes and cycles in clear detail, offering advice as to how you can use such processes to your advantage, and how to improve your current processes. Moreover, the authors describe how to practice HCI in the field with applied techniques ranging from understanding your users' needs to creating paper prototypes and wireframes.

The UX Book also talks about how user experience fits into organizations and how to apply UX design in different organizational contexts. For example, an organization that has a strong software engineering culture will need to approach UX differently from one that has business analysts setting product direction.

Consider this book HCI 101 for students interested in the field or for practitioners who want some formalized background to understand how what they do fits into the larger scope of what UX tries to accomplish. This book does not offer advice on how to become a Photoshop master nor does it offer detail about JavaScript development for high-fidelity prototyping. And unfortunately, because UX is such a broad term, some may mistake this book as a guide for learning about interaction design in detail. Those caveats in mind, this book is second to none if you're interested in learning how to practice HCI methods and how many seemingly abstract academic HCI techniques can work in the real world.

Grab this book!

In a world where user experience is often regarded as an after-thought or a "nice to have," this book really makes the case for a comprehensive and integrated approach to building interactive systems. If you want to convince someone on your team about the importance of user experience, you will find many talking points in this book. If you yourself want to learn about user experience, and why it is absolutely essential, buy this book.

Much of user experience in practice is at the overlap of psychology, design, and software engineering. A lot of UX books are heavy on the psychology side, and speak to an academic audience. Talking about abstract theories from psychology may not translate well among the software development team. This book helps bridge that gap by talking about UX in a common sense way. The book presents Wheel, a process to "ensure a quality user experience" in a systematic software-engineering-like that developers can relate to and apply.

Try this: When you run into a UX challenge at work, don't pull the book off the shelf... but really think of how YOU would approach that problem. THEN go back and read the book. You will see how much it rings true. You would digest the material and remember it better, that way. If you just read it cover to cover without a real problem to solve in your mind, you might not feel the true impact of the book. You might think "yeah - what's the big deal about a bunch of post-it notes on a wall or sketching dozens of design ideas when only one will be used?" But if you tried approaching the problem yourself first, you'd appreciate the value of the methods suggested in the book.

Actionable, practical, down-to-earth advice for students and practitioners, with some humor too! GRAB THIS BOOK!

Where is Information Architecture?

I picked this up with a lot of excitement; I teach and mentor in the field and have long been looking for something that could become the seminal textbook as opposed to the assortment of books I currently need to assign or recommend to really cover the bases. At first glance this book looks wonderful--it is obviously written by authors with deep expertise, I love that it is geared to active learning with the inclusion of exercises, it is thoughtfully organized. As I scanned through the table of contents an alarm bell went off in my mind, however--how could a book purporting to be a comprehensive guide to designing effective user experiences (which primarily still means designing effective user interfaces) fail to include information architecture? This strikes me as a really egregious oversight.

Some books on the topic don't use the term "information architecture" but they still delve deeply into organization, navigation, content strategy, and other critical elements that information architecture encompasses. I'm always disappointed when the term "information architecture" isn't used, as I consider it the best and most widely understood term for capturing this unique set of components--but a rose by any other name still smells as sweet, so I can cope without the term as long as the concepts are there. I don't think that is really the case with this text, however. There is a (thin) chapter on mental models that imperfectly and partially covers this territory--and that is about it.

In reality, this book is an extensive usability evaluation techniques book (and from that aspect it appears to be a very good one) that also includes information on user research techniques and a chapter on prototyping. This is not a comprehensive user experience design text and I would not recommend it as such given that such critical content is absent. I would go as far as to say that students using this book and no other would come away dangerously misguided about what is required to create truly good user interfaces and user experiences.

Another reader that I discussed this with acknowledged that it is troubling that IA is missing in both name and form but encouraged me to appreciate that the book is pretty good at everything else it covers and great at many. I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but that seems a bit like saying that we should appreciate an anatomy text for its brilliant coverage of the nervous system, muscles, and organs, and overlook the fact that the skeleton is missing. And that's why I feel that this book can't warrant even a 3 star review.
